A grow camera on a pole shows you the top of the canopy, and only when you remember to look. The Spectron 7 by AC Infinity is a different tool: a 4K AI grow camera with infrared thermal imaging, onboard climate sensors that track VPD at the canopy, plant-safe 940nm night vision and a second corded camera that sits under the canopy and photographs the leaves an overhead view never sees. It is built for growers who already have the climate under control and want eyes on the tent while they are away, and it pairs with a Controller AI+ so the controller can act on what the camera sees. It needs 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, its own power point and a microSD card (not included) for timelapse, and the AI flags changes for you to go and check rather than diagnosing anything.

Runs on Australian power, but check the plug. The camera is USB-C powered (5V/2A) and the supplied adapter is rated 100–240V, so it runs on our 240V with no issue. The adapter in the box has US-style wall pins. Either plug the supplied cable into any Australian USB-C charger you already own, or fit a US-to-AU travel plug adapter. Neither affects the camera or its warranty. It plugs into the wall on its own and does not draw power from a controller, so count one more outlet in the tent.
Reads Leaf Temperature, Not Just AirInfrared thermal imaging maps surface temperature across the canopy. A leaf running hotter than the room is under stress before anything is visible, and no air probe will tell you that.
A Second Camera Under the CanopyThe corded 2K support cam sits low and looks up at the lower leaves and leaf undersides, where sap-sucking pests feed and mobile-nutrient shortfalls show first. The overhead cam cannot see any of it.
True VPD at the CanopyOnboard temperature and humidity sensors plus leaf surface temperature give a VPD figure calculated where the plants are, not where a probe happens to hang.
Night Vision That Respects the Dark Period940nm infrared with a 10m range. It is invisible to you and does not register with photoperiod-sensitive plants, unlike the IR floodlight on a security camera.
Talks to Your AI ControllerPair it with a Controller AI+ in the AC Infinity app and the camera becomes an input to your automations, such as dimming the light the moment heat stress shows on the canopy.
4K Timelapse of the Whole Run8MP stills and 2.5K live view, with timelapse and recording written to a microSD card. Replay a full cycle from the app and see when things changed, not just that they did.

Grower's Tip

  • Check your 2.4GHz signal at the tent before it arrives. Mylar walls and a steel frame eat Wi-Fi, and the camera will not join a 5GHz-only network.
  • Mount it high in a corner, angled across the canopy rather than straight down, so the whole top of the grow is in frame. You will re-angle it as the plants climb.
  • Put the support cam low and aim it at the older, lower leaves. That is where a shortfall of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium or magnesium shows first, because the plant pulls those out of old growth to feed new growth.
  • Note the leaf-to-air temperature gap when the grow is healthy. The thermal view earns its keep when that gap changes, and you can only spot a change if you know the baseline.
  • Buy a microSD card before it lands if you want timelapse. Live view, stills and alerts work without one.
  • Treat an AI alert as a reason to open the tent and look, not as a diagnosis. The camera tells you something changed and roughly where; the call is still yours.

How To Set It Up

1Install the free AC Infinity app and sign in. Clamp the main camera to a top tent pole with the dual-joint mount and angle it across the canopy.
2Power it from an Australian USB-C charger with the supplied cable, or fit a travel plug adapter to the supplied US-pin adapter. Give it its own outlet; it does not run off a controller port.
3In the app tap the plus icon, add the camera and follow the pairing prompts to join your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
4Plug the support camera's cord into the main unit, run it down the pole and fix it with the supplied tie so the lens sits below the canopy aimed at the lower leaves.
5Fit a microSD card (not included) for timelapse and recording, then set your timelapse interval and the alerts you want in the app.
6Optional: link the camera to a Controller AI+ already on your account through the app, then switch on the vision-driven automations you want, such as dimming the light on heat stress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an AC Infinity controller to use the Spectron 7?

No. On its own it is a camera with sensors and an app, which is all many setups need. Pairing it with a Controller AI+ is what unlocks vision-driven automations, where the controller acts on what the camera detects. AC Infinity lists its AI controllers for that function.

Does it work on Australian 240V power?

Yes. The camera is USB-C powered and the supplied adapter is dual voltage, 100–240V. The only US-specific part is the shape of the adapter's wall pins. Use any Australian USB-C charger you already own, or fit a travel plug adapter to the supplied one.

Will the night vision disturb the dark period?

No. It uses 940nm infrared, which sits deep enough into the infrared not to register for photoperiod purposes and is invisible to the eye. That is the reason to use a purpose-built grow camera rather than a security camera, whose IR illuminator or white LED defeats the point of a dark period.

Does it connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi?

No. The camera is 2.4GHz only. Most routers broadcast both bands, so it is usually a matter of making sure 2.4GHz is enabled and reaches the tent. A 5GHz-only network will not connect until you switch 2.4GHz on.

Does it come with a memory card?

No. Timelapse and recording write to a microSD card that you supply. Live view, still photos and alerts work without one.

Can the AI tell me what is wrong with my plants?

No, not in the sense of a diagnosis. It tracks growth rate and plant stage, watches for changes in the canopy, surface temperature and climate, and raises an alert when something shifts. AC Infinity's own guide says the AI insights are based on visual patterns, may be limited, and that you should rely on proper cultivation practice and grower judgement. The value is catching a change on day two instead of day six.

How is this different from the Vivosun 2K Smart Grow Camera?

The Vivosun 2K Smart Grow Camera is a 2K Wi-Fi camera with night vision and timelapse for watching the tent, and it costs less than half as much. The Spectron 7 adds 4K stills, thermal imaging, onboard climate sensors with VPD, a second camera under the canopy, AI alerts and controller integration. If you only want eyes on the tent, the Vivosun does that job. If you want the camera to tell you about leaf temperature and feed a controller, this is the one.

Is it waterproof?

No, it is IP65, which means dust-tight and protected against water jets. A humid tent, a greenhouse or a shed is fine. It is built around tent pole clamps and an enclosed space, not sustained rain and direct sun.

Growers First, Retailers Second

Welcome to The Grow Guys

We built The Grow Guys from the soil up — well, coco and perlite. Before we sold gear, we bought it, ran it, and learned the hard way what's worth the money and what ends up in the shed. That's the filter everything on our shelves passes through. No sales scripts, no rebadged junk, no telling you what you want to hear. Just gear we'd run ourselves and advice from people who actually grow. Chasing higher yields, tighter flowers, or your first harvest? You're in the right place.
