House & Garden Coco is a premium buffered coco coir substrate designed to work from the first day of use without robbing your nutrient solution of calcium and magnesium. It arrives washed, pH stable, and pre-charged — so you start feeding your plants, not the growing medium. Available in a 50L bag, it suits any coco-specific nutrient programme running in pots, slabs, or mixed substrate blends.
Specifications
- Even with pre-buffered coco, run your first few feeds at slightly reduced EC to let the medium fully equilibrate before ramping to full strength.
- Mix with 20–30% perlite by volume to improve drainage and prevent compaction, particularly in larger containers.
- Always use a coco-specific nutrient formula — general hydro nutrients are not formulated for coco coir's cation exchange behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does House & Garden Coco need to be buffered before use?
No. It arrives pre-buffered with calcium and magnesium, so you can use it straight from the bag. A light pre-wet with pH-adjusted water before planting is still recommended to activate the medium evenly.
Can I use it with nutrients other than H&G Cocos A&B?
Yes. H&G Coco is compatible with any coco-specific nutrient programme. Just ensure you are using a formula designed for coco — standard hydro or soil nutrients are not formulated for coir's cation exchange characteristics.
Should I mix it with perlite?
Yes, in most cases. A 70–80% coco to 20–30% perlite ratio improves drainage and keeps the root zone oxygenated — particularly important in larger containers. In smaller pots with more frequent watering, straight coco works fine.
How often should I flush the coco?
Monitor runoff EC on each feed. When it climbs significantly above your feed EC, flush with plain pH-adjusted water to clear salt build-up. Most growers running regular schedules flush every 2–4 weeks as a precaution.
Is coco coir reusable between grows?
Yes, with preparation. Used coco can be flushed, sterilised, and re-buffered for a second grow. The structure degrades with each use though, and re-buffering is required before replanting. Many commercial growers use fresh coco each cycle for consistency.
