Pairs well with
Carbon Filters by AC Infinity run Australian virgin RC412 charcoal rated at 1200+ IAV, packed into a 38mm bed behind dual-sided galvanised steel mesh with reversible aluminium flanges. Five sizes from 4 inch (210 CFM) to 12 inch (1668 CFM) so you can match the filter to your inline fan without overpaying for capacity you will never use. Each one ships with two machine-washable pre-filter cloths and two hanging straps. This is the part of your build that decides whether the neighbours ever find out.
Specifications
- Wash or swap the pre-filter cloth every 4 to 6 weeks in heavy use. A clogged pre-filter chokes airflow long before the carbon is anywhere near spent
- Run the fan continuously through flower. Carbon only adsorbs while air is moving across it — an intermittent fan is how odour escapes
- Flip the flange when you first notice odour getting through. It evens out wear across the bed and buys you working life before replacement
- High humidity shortens carbon life. If you run a wet room, expect to replace sooner than a dry one and plan the budget for it
- Match the filter to the fan diameter, not to your tent size. Oversizing without a reducer just costs money and takes up headroom
Setting It Up
Pairs Well With
The other half of the job. Match your fan diameter to the filter you pick here — the two work as one system or not at all.
Fan, Filter & Ducting KitsStarting from scratch? A matched kit gets you fan, filter, ducting and clamps in one go without second-guessing the sizing.
Ducting & AccessoriesDucting, clamps, reducers and rope hangers. The small parts that decide whether your extraction run actually seals.
Grow Tents & Grow RoomsSizing a filter for a new build? Start from the tent — its volume and port sizes set the fan, and the fan sets the filter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I size the filter to my tent or to my fan?
To your fan. Match the flange diameter to your inline fan diameter so they couple directly without adapters. As a rough guide, a 1.2m tent usually runs a 6-inch fan and filter, a 1.5m tent an 8-inch, and commercial rooms 10 or 12 inch. The filter's rated CFM should meet or exceed your fan's airflow.
How long does a carbon filter actually last?
Typically 12 to 18 months of continuous running, but humidity is the variable that matters most — a consistently wet room will chew through carbon faster than a dry one. Reversing the flange evens out wear across the bed and extends the working life. When odour starts getting through and flipping the flange no longer helps, it is done.
Is RC412 charcoal actually better than cheaper carbon?
Yes. RC412 is an Australian virgin charcoal rated at 1200+ IAV — iodine adsorption value, the standard measure of how much odour a carbon can hold. Recycled and lower-grade charcoals rate considerably lower, which means less odour capacity per pass and a shorter service life. Virgin carbon also has more consistent pore structure, so airflow stays predictable.
Can I run the filter on the exhaust side of the fan?
Yes. The reversible flange design supports both configurations. Most tent growers hang the filter inside on the intake side of the fan, which keeps the tent under negative pressure so nothing escapes through seams or port ties. Exhaust-side mounting suits positive-pressure and sealed rooms.
Do I have to use the pre-filter cloth?
Yes, if you want the filter to last. The pre-filter catches dust and airborne debris before it loads into the carbon bed. Skipping it means the carbon clogs mechanically long before its adsorption capacity is used up. Two machine-washable cloths are included — wash or swap every 4 to 6 weeks under heavy use.
What comes in the box?
The filter, two machine-washable pre-filter cloths, and two hanging straps. Ducting, clamps and rope clip hangers are sold separately — if you are building the run from scratch, factor those in. AC Infinity backs the filter with a 2-year warranty.
