Pairs well with
Mammoth P is a live bacterial inoculant developed by Colorado State University scientists, and it has one job: making phosphorus available to your plants. Four named strains, 2.02 million colony-forming units per millilitre, dosed at 0.16ml per litre twice a week in hydro, coco, rockwool or soil, from propagation through to harvest. Phosphorus is the nutrient plants draw on hardest in bloom and fruiting, and it is also one that readily locks up in media and nutrient solution, so a share of what you pay for in a bloom feed never reaches the plant. Mammoth P's consortium cycles that locked-up phosphorus, and the micronutrients that travel with it, back into a form roots can take up, which is why Mammoth Ag rates it at more than 30 times the effectiveness of the agricultural soil microbes it was benchmarked against. It is a near-neutral pH formulation, it keeps for more than two years on the shelf, and the 250ml bottle makes over 1,500 litres of solution.

Grower's Tip
- Buy a syringe. At 0.16ml per litre a 50-litre reservoir takes 8ml and a 10-litre watering can takes 1.6ml. A capful is not a measurement, and at this price you want every millilitre going where it counts.
- Nutrients first, then Mammoth P. Mix your base feed and set pH the way you normally would, then add the microbes. It is a near-neutral formulation, so you are not chasing your pH again afterwards.
- Twice a week means twice a week. In a recirculating system, dose at the reservoir change and again three or four days later. In pots, put it in two of the week's waterings. It is a culture you keep topped up, not a one-off shot.
- Sterilisers and microbes do not mix. If you run hydrogen peroxide or a chlorine-based reservoir cleaner, Mammoth Ag's advice is to wait 24 hours before adding Mammoth P. Otherwise the steriliser does to your bacteria exactly what it is designed to do.
- Start it in veg. Mammoth Ag rates it for every growth stage and recommends running it from propagation to harvest. Bloom is where it shines, not where it starts.
- Date the bottle. More than two years on the shelf unopened, but best within six months of opening. Write the date you cracked it on the label so you are not guessing next cycle.
- Store it like a live culture. Out of direct sun and away from heat and cold, which rules out the top of the ballast, the dashboard of the ute and the shed floor in a Tasmanian winter.
- Treat it with a bit of respect. It is live bacteria: keep it off broken skin and out of your eyes and mouth, do not breathe the mist if you are spraying it around, and keep it away from anyone in the house with a compromised immune system.
How To Use It
Pairs Well With
The other Mammoth bottle. One silica formula and one rate from start to finish, so it slots into the same twice-a-week routine without changing anything.
Great White MycorrhizaeMammoth P is the bacterial side of the root zone; Great White is the fungal side. Inoculate at transplant, then keep Mammoth P going twice a week.
Massive Bloom FormulationGreen Planet's flagship bloom booster supplies the phosphorus and potassium; Mammoth P's bacteria keep more of it in a form the roots can actually use.
Liquid Weight by Green PlanetA flowering carbohydrate additive that feeds the microbial life in the root zone as well as the plant. Fuel for the colony you just paid for.
Multizyme by House & GardenEnzymes for breaking down dead root material, which is a different job to phosphorus cycling. Mammoth P does not replace an enzyme product, so run both if you want both.
Hydroponic Additives RangeBoosters, enzymes, silica, carbs and microbes. Build the feed around your base nutrient rather than buying bottles at random.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Mammoth P and what does it actually do?
Mammoth P is a liquid culture of four beneficial bacteria, Pseudomonas putida, Comamonas testosteroni, Citrobacter freundii and Enterobacter cloacae, at a combined 2.02 million CFU per millilitre in water with 2% plant extract. Developed by Colorado State University scientists, the consortium was selected for one trait: cycling phosphorus. Phosphorus locks up readily in media and nutrient solution; these bacteria convert it, and the micronutrients that go with it, back into forms plant roots can absorb. Mammoth Ag rates the consortium at more than 30 times the effectiveness of the agricultural soil microbes it was benchmarked against, and says it shines during high-demand periods like bloom and fruiting.
What is the Mammoth P dose rate in ml per litre?
0.16ml per litre, applied twice a week. The label states it as 0.6ml per US gallon, which is the same thing. In practice that is 1.6ml for a 10-litre watering can, 8ml for a 50-litre reservoir and 16ml for 100 litres, so a syringe or pipette is the tool, not the cap. At that rate the 250ml bottle makes over 1,500 litres of solution and the 1L over 6,000 litres.
Does Mammoth P work in hydroponics, DWC and recirculating systems?
Yes. Mammoth Ag rates it for all hydroponic, soilless and soil-based media, including coco coir and rockwool, at the same 0.16ml per litre rate. In a recirculating system it goes into the reservoir; the one thing to manage is sterilisers, because a reservoir you are dosing with hydrogen peroxide or chlorine is not a reservoir live bacteria will survive in. See the next two questions.
Will Mammoth P change my EC or pH?
No. It is a near-neutral pH formulation, and Mammoth Ag's scientists state it carries no EC and will not shift the pH of your solution. Mix your nutrients, set pH as normal, add Mammoth P, and your numbers stay where you put them.
Can I use Mammoth P with hydrogen peroxide or chlorine-based reservoir sterilisers?
Not at the same time. Peroxide and chlorine products are there to kill microbes, and they do not distinguish between the ones you want and the ones you do not. Mammoth Ag's advice is to wait 24 hours after using either before adding Mammoth P. If you run a sterile reservoir as a matter of policy, a live inoculant is the wrong product for that system.
Is the "16% more yield" claim real?
The 16% figure comes from the manufacturer's own third-party growth trials, and it is the number the brand has used since Mammoth P launched. It is a trial result, not a guarantee, and your result depends on how much phosphorus your feed is already leaving on the table. What we will say is that the mechanism is real and the strains are named and counted on the label, which is more than most additives on the shelf can offer.
Does Mammoth P replace my enzyme product?
Mammoth Ag does not claim that, so neither do we. Enzyme additives such as Multizyme or Cannazym are there to break down dead root material in the substrate. Mammoth P is there to cycle phosphorus. They are different jobs, and running both is fine.
Is Mammoth P organic?
It is a live bacterial culture in water with 2% plant extract, so it is a biological input rather than a synthetic one, and it fits an organic-style feed program. Mammoth Ag does not list an organic certification for it, so we do not call it certified organic. If certification matters for what you are growing, check with the certifying body before you rely on it.
How long does Mammoth P last, and how should I store it?
More than two years unopened, and Mammoth Ag recommends using it within six months of opening. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from hot and cold extremes, and shake it well before every use because the culture settles. Write the opening date on the bottle.
Is Mammoth P safe to handle?
Treated sensibly, yes. It contains live microorganisms, so the label says to avoid contact with eyes, mouth and broken skin and not to inhale it, and it warns the product may cause adverse effects for people with a compromised immune system. Measure it with a syringe, wash your hands afterwards, and keep it out of reach of kids and pets like any other bottle in the grow room.
