Succulents do not need much, but they do need something, and what most of them get is either nothing for three years or a slug of general fertiliser that scorches the roots. Succulent Focus is Growth Technology's complete liquid nutrient for succulents and cacti, made in Australia: all 12 essential minerals, nitrogen as nitrate, no urea, chlorides or sodium, and pH buffered so it mixes with tap water. Used at 3–5ml per litre in a gritty mix it feeds echeverias, haworthias, aloes, crassulas, sedums and cacti without pushing soft, stretched growth. It is a feed, not a fix for low light or overwatering. Available in 250ml, 1L, 5L and 20L.

Formulated for slow growersPotassium 3.0% against nitrate-nitrogen 2.4%, with calcium and magnesium alongside. Firm, compact growth and good colour, not the soft stretch a nitrogen-heavy feed produces.
Gentle at label ratesGrowth Technology positions it to reduce the risk of fertiliser burn. Low dose, every watering, no urea or salts building up in a pot that drains fast.
Nothing that lingersNo urea, chlorides or sodium. In a gritty, fast-draining mix that matters: there is nothing left behind to concentrate between waterings.
Works in grit, pumice and LECAFormulated for hydroponics and soil, so it suits mineral mixes, pumice-heavy blends and semi-hydro as well as a standard cactus mix.
pH buffered for tap waterMix at the label rate and the solution sits in range with most Australian tap water. No adjusting.
Odourless, indoors or outCompletely odourless, so a windowsill of succulents fed every watering is not a windowsill that smells.

Grower's Tip

  • Feed when you water, not on a calendar. Succulents are watered when the mix is dry, so the feed naturally follows the plant's pace through the year.
  • Start at 3ml per litre and stay there for most pots. Succulents are not heavy feeders; the top of the range is for large, established plants in active growth.
  • Water to runoff even with succulents. A gritty mix drains fast, so a thorough soak then a complete dry-out is the rhythm, and it flushes salts as it goes.
  • If a plant is stretching, the problem is light, not food. More fertiliser will make etiolation worse.
  • Mix fresh each fortnight. A pre-mixed solution keeps for about 1–2 weeks.
  • Store cool and dark, shake before use.

How To Use It

1Shake the bottle. Measure 3–5ml per litre of water for potting mix, or 5–7ml per litre for semi-hydro and LECA. Start at the low end.
2Add the concentrate to the water and mix. Tap water is fine and no pH adjustment is needed.
3Wait until the mix is dry right through, then water with the solution until it runs freely from the drainage holes. Tip out anything left in the saucer.
4Repeat at every watering. The plant sets the schedule by how fast the mix dries.
5Once a month, water with plain water only to flush mineral salts. Mix fresh solution at least every fortnight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Succulent Focus suitable for cacti as well as succulents?

Yes. Growth Technology formulates it for succulents and cacti together. Use the same 3–5ml per litre rate in a cactus mix.

Will it burn my succulents?

No, not at label rates. It is positioned to reduce the risk of fertiliser burn: a low dose at every watering, no urea, chlorides or sodium, and a monthly plain-water flush. Overdosing any fertiliser can still damage roots, so stay within the range.

How often should I feed succulents?

At every watering, which for a succulent means whenever the mix has dried out completely. Feeding follows watering, so it slows down naturally in the cooler months.

Does it contain urea?

No. Succulent Focus is free from urea, chlorides and sodium. Nitrogen is supplied as nitrate.

Do I need to adjust the pH?

No, not with most tap water. It is pH buffered.

Can I use it in pumice, grit or LECA?

Yes. It is formulated for both hydroponics and soil, which covers mineral mixes and semi-hydro. Use the 5–7ml per litre rate in inert media.

What is the NPK?

Growth Technology publishes a full analysis rather than a ratio: nitrate-nitrogen 2.4%, phosphorus 0.7% and potassium 3.0% w/v, plus calcium, magnesium, sulfur and six chelated trace elements. The full table is in Specifications.

Why is my succulent stretching if I am feeding it?

Because stretching is a light problem, not a nutrient problem. Move it somewhere brighter. Extra fertiliser will not fix it and can make the soft growth worse.

How long does a mixed solution last?

About 1–2 weeks. After that, replace it.

Welcome to The Grow Guys

We built The Grow Guys from the soil up — well, coco and perlite. Before we sold gear, we bought it, ran it, and learned the hard way what's worth the money and what ends up in the shed. That's the filter everything on our shelves passes through. No sales scripts, no rebadged junk, no telling you what you want to hear. Just gear we'd run ourselves and advice from people who actually grow. Chasing higher yields, tighter flowers, or your first harvest? You're in the right place.
