When your nutrient solution reads below the range your plants feed best in, it needs bringing up, and slowly. pH Up is Growth Technology's adjuster for raising the pH of hydroponic nutrient solutions: a concentrated potassium hydroxide solution at 480 g/L, dosed with a dropper rather than a measuring cap. Growth Technology's method is simple: mix the nutrient first, test, add a few counted drops, stir, retest, and record what it took. It is strong stuff. The label carries a Poison S6 schedule, it is a Class 8 corrosive, and gloves and eye protection are not optional. Available in 250ml, 1L and 5L.

Dangerous goods: road freight or pickup. pH Up is a Class 8 corrosive and can't travel by standard post. Online orders go by dangerous-goods road courier at a separate freight charge that isn't included in free shipping over $499*, and delivery may take longer. We'll contact you after you order to confirm. Prefer to skip the freight? Choose pickup from our Invermay store or local delivery at checkout.
Dosed by the dropAt 480 g/L it is concentrated, so you work in counted drops, not capfuls. Small, controlled moves are what stop a reservoir overshooting.
Potassium, not sodiumIt raises pH with potassium hydroxide, so what it leaves in the tank is potassium, a mineral plants use, rather than sodium.
Built for GT nutrientsGrowth Technology's Ionic and GT Coco directions both finish with a test and adjust to pH 5.5–6.5. This is the same maker's tool for that last step.
A method you can repeatRecord the drops per litre each time. The next mix of the same nutrient starts from a known number instead of a guess.
Three sizes250ml suits a tent or a few reservoirs, 1L a bigger system, 5L a grower who mixes by the drum.
Cheaper as a pairMost growers need both directions sooner or later. The pH Up & Down Set puts the two together for less.
Read before you buy Poison S6. pH Up is a concentrated potassium hydroxide solution (480 g/L) and a Class 8 corrosive dangerous good (UN 1814). Growth Technology warns it may cause severe burns and attacks skin and eyes. Wear protective gloves and eye and face protection whenever you open, measure or dose it, and store it in a secure, well-ventilated place out of reach of children. First aid: contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 or a doctor at once. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; give a glass of water. Eyes: hold the lids apart and flush with running water for at least 15 minutes, then see a doctor. Skin or hair: remove contaminated clothing and flush with running water.

Grower's Tip

  • Calibrate your pH pen before you reach for this bottle. An out-of-calibration pen will have you chasing a number that isn't real.
  • Adjust last. Growth Technology's method is nutrients and additives in, mixed and settled, then test and adjust.
  • Go one drop at a time and stir between doses. With a concentrate this strong, overshooting is the usual mistake.
  • Write down the drops per litre every time. After two or three mixes you will know your starting dose without thinking about it.
  • If you overshoot, bring it back with pH Down, again a drop at a time.
  • Never pour pH Up and pH Down into each other or share a dropper or measuring cup between them.
  • Keep the cap on and the bottle locked away. It is a Schedule 6 poison and a corrosive, and it belongs nowhere near kids or pets.

How To Use It

1Mix your nutrients and any additives into the reservoir, stir well and let the solution settle.
2Test the pH with a calibrated pen or meter.
3Put on gloves and eye protection. Using a dropper, add a small amount of pH Up, counting the drops, then stir it through.
4Retest. Repeat the last step until the solution reaches your target pH, which is 5.5–6.5 for Growth Technology's hydroponic and coco nutrients.
5Write down how many drops per litre it took. Next time you mix the same nutrient at the same strength, you have a starting point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is pH Up dangerous?

Yes. It is a concentrated potassium hydroxide solution, a Schedule 6 poison and a Class 8 corrosive. Growth Technology warns it may cause severe burns and attacks skin and eyes. Wear gloves and eye and face protection every time you use it.

How much pH Up do I use?

There is no fixed rate. Growth Technology's method is to add a small amount with a dropper, counting the drops, stir, retest and repeat until you hit your target, then record the drops per litre for next time.

What pH should I aim for?

5.5–6.5 for Growth Technology's hydroponic and coco nutrients, which is the range in their Ionic and GT Coco directions.

When should I adjust the pH?

Last. Mix your nutrients and additives, let the solution settle, then test and adjust.

What is in pH Up?

Potassium hydroxide at 480 g/L, as printed on the label.

What if I add too much?

Bring it back down with pH Down, a drop at a time, retesting as you go.

Can you post pH Up to me?

Not by standard post. It is a dangerous good, so online orders go by dangerous-goods road courier at a separate freight charge, not included in free shipping over $499*. We contact you after you order to confirm. Pickup from our Invermay store and local delivery are also available.

What do I do if it gets on my skin or in my eyes?

Skin: remove contaminated clothing and flush with running water. Eyes: hold the lids apart and flush with running water for at least 15 minutes, then see a doctor. For anything more, call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26.

Which size should I buy?

Dosed by the drop, a 250ml bottle lasts most home setups a long time. The 1L suits bigger systems and the 5L growers who mix by the drum.

Growers First, Retailers Second

Welcome to The Grow Guys

We built The Grow Guys from the soil up — well, coco and perlite. Before we sold gear, we bought it, ran it, and learned the hard way what's worth the money and what ends up in the shed. That's the filter everything on our shelves passes through. No sales scripts, no rebadged junk, no telling you what you want to hear. Just gear we'd run ourselves and advice from people who actually grow. Chasing higher yields, tighter flowers, or your first harvest? You're in the right place.
