Grower's Tip
  • Get the base right. The tank must sit on a level, compacted base that supports the whole footprint, with no rocks or roots underneath. Most tank problems start with a poor base.
  • Fit a first flush diverter and keep the gutters clean if you plan to drink the water. The tank keeps water clean; your roof decides what goes in.
  • Put a leaf guard on the gutters as well as the tank's leaf strainer. Less debris in means less sludge to clean out later.
  • Point the overflow somewhere useful and away from house footings: a garden bed, stormwater or a soak.
  • A tank gives you storage, not pressure. Add a pump if you want to run hoses, sprinklers or the house.
  • Full, this tank holds 3,600L of water, which weighs around 3.6 tonnes. Never build the base on fill or on a slope.

1Choose the spot near a downpipe, with the outlet facing where you will use the water.

3Pick it up from Invermay or book Tasmanian delivery, and set it in place on the base.
4Connect the downpipe to the inlet through the leaf strainer, and run the overflow away from footings.
5Fit a hose, pump or plumbing to the outlet, and a first flush diverter if the water is for drinking.
