When you need real water security for the house, the garden or bushfire season, a 5,500L tank is the size that does it. This squat smooth wall poly water tank is 2.51m wide x 1.48m high (inlet 1.22m), Tasmanian made in one piece from food grade, UV stabilised polyethylene and certified to AS/NZS 4766 for drinking water. A squat tank is low and wide, so it sits under low eaves and gutters while still holding serious volume. It comes fitted with a ball valve, brass outlets, a leaf strainer and an overflow with a mozzie stopper, in 28 colours, backed by a 10 year manufacturer warranty. The honest bit: it is made to order in 3 to 5 weeks, it is delivered straight to your site in Tasmania (truck access needed), and it needs a level prepared base ready before it arrives.

Made to order, delivered to your site. Allow 3 to 5 weeks. Tanks this size are delivered straight to your property in Tasmania: the truck needs clear access, someone needs to be there to help position the tank, and the base must be level and prepared before it arrives. Grower's Tip

  • Get the base right. The tank must sit on a level, compacted base that supports the whole footprint, with no rocks or roots underneath. Most tank problems start with a poor base.
  • Fit a first flush diverter and keep the gutters clean if you plan to drink the water. The tank keeps water clean; your roof decides what goes in.
  • Put a leaf guard on the gutters as well as the tank's leaf strainer. Less debris in means less sludge to clean out later.
  • Point the overflow somewhere useful and away from house footings: a garden bed, stormwater or a soak.
  • A tank gives you storage, not pressure. Add a pump if you want to run hoses, sprinklers or the house.
  • Full, this tank holds 5,500L of water, which weighs around 5.5 tonnes. Never build the base on fill or on a slope.

How To Set It Up

1Choose the spot near your downpipes, with clear truck access for delivery.
2Prepare a level, compacted base bigger than the tank's footprint, ready before the delivery day.
3Be there on delivery day to help position the tank, with the outlet facing where you will use the water.
4Connect your downpipes to the inlet through the leaf strainer, and run the overflow away from footings.
5Fit a pump and plumbing to the outlet, and a first flush diverter if the water is for drinking.

Growers First, Retailers Second

Welcome to The Grow Guys

We built The Grow Guys from the soil up — well, coco and perlite. Before we sold gear, we bought it, ran it, and learned the hard way what's worth the money and what ends up in the shed. That's the filter everything on our shelves passes through. No sales scripts, no rebadged junk, no telling you what you want to hear. Just gear we'd run ourselves and advice from people who actually grow. Chasing higher yields, tighter flowers, or your first harvest? You're in the right place.
