The AC Infinity Self-Watering Fabric Pot Base waters your pots from a built-in reservoir, but you still have to top that reservoir up by hand. The Auto-Fill Upgrade Valve Kit replaces the jug with a float valve fed from a bigger tank: gravity pushes water in as the base drops, the float shuts it off at level, and there is no pump, no timer and no power point involved. You get four valves (one per base), 4.57m of tube, four splitters to chain the bases together and four nozzles. It suits anyone running the AC Infinity bases who wants to go away for a week or stop doing the daily rounds. Two things to know up front: it fits the AC Infinity bases only (Standard and XL), and the reservoir has to sit above the bases, because gravity is the pump.

Upgrade kit, not a system. This is the valves and plumbing only. It fits the Self-Watering Fabric Pot Base by AC Infinity in Standard (AC-SPA5-4) and XL (AC-SPA9-4). Bases, fabric pots and the reservoir tank are sold separately.
The Base Fills ItselfAs the plant draws the reservoir down, the float drops and the valve opens. At level it closes. The base stays topped up without you lifting a jug.
No Pump, No PowerGravity does the work. Nothing to plug in, nothing to program, and a blackout changes nothing.
Four Bases Off One TankThe splitters tee one feed line out to every base. AC Infinity says the system connects to any number of bases, so a second kit adds four more.
Oversized Float, Rubber StopperThe float is deliberately large and seals on a rubber stopper, so it shuts cleanly instead of weeping past the seat the way small floats do.
Standard 1/4-inch LineThe 1/4in ID, 3/8in OD tube is the same size hydroponic tanks and fittings use, so plumbing it into a reservoir with a bulkhead or tap is simple.
Tool-Free FitThe valve sits inside the base's reservoir and plumbs in with push-fit nozzles. No drilling, no glue, and it comes back out between crops for a rinse.

Grower's Tip

  • The tank must sit higher than the bases. A milk crate, a low shelf or a stand beside the tent is the usual answer, and the higher it is the more confidently the valves fill.
  • Keep the tank lidded and out of the light. A clear tank in a lit room grows algae, and algae ends up in the floats.
  • Watch the first fill with the pots off. Let every base fill until its float shuts, then check each joint for drips before you walk away from it.
  • Cut tube square with a sharp blade. A ragged or angled cut will not seat properly in a push-fit nozzle and will weep.
  • Rinse the valves and flush the line between crops so the floats move freely, especially if you run nutrient solution through the tank.
  • For a sense of scale, AC Infinity's own self-watering system pairs four bases with a 49L reservoir.

How To Set It Up

1Site the reservoir above the height of the bases and close to the pots. Fit it with an outlet that takes 3/8in OD tube.
2Fit one float valve into each Self-Watering Base following the quick-start card in the box, with the nozzle pointing toward where the tube will run.
3Run the tube from the reservoir to the first base, then use the splitters to tee off to the others. Cut each length square and push it fully home.
4Fill the tank and open the line. Let each base fill until its float shuts the valve.
5Check every joint and valve for drips. Trim and reseat any tube that weeps.
6Put the fabric pots back on their bases. From here the only job is topping up the tank and rinsing the valves between crops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it need a pump or electricity?

No. The valves are gravity-fed floats. Water flows from a reservoir sitting above the bases, and the float shuts the valve when the base is full. Nothing is plugged in, so a power outage changes nothing.

Will it fit other brands of self-watering base?

No. It is made for the AC Infinity Self-Watering Fabric Pot Base, in both the Standard and XL sizes. Each base takes one valve and the kit has four.

Does it come with a reservoir?

No. You supply the tank. Any lidded reservoir with an outlet that takes 3/8in OD tube will do, as long as it sits higher than the bases.

Does it work with the XL base?

Yes. AC Infinity lists the kit as compatible with both the Standard (AC-SPA5-4) and XL (AC-SPA9-4) Self-Watering Fabric Pot Base.

How high does the reservoir need to be?

AC Infinity does not publish a minimum. The system is gravity-fed, so the water surface in the tank has to be above the water level in the bases for anything to flow, and more height gives more push. A tank on a milk crate or shelf beside the tent is how most people run it.

Can I run more than four bases from one tank?

Yes. AC Infinity describes the design as expandable to any number of bases. One kit covers four; a second kit and its splitters carry the same line on to four more.

Is the tube the same as Australian 4mm irrigation line?

No. The kit uses imperial 1/4in ID, 3/8in OD tube (roughly 6.4mm inside, 9.5mm outside), which is the standard size in hydroponic reservoirs and fittings. Use the supplied tube and fittings rather than metric micro-irrigation line.

Do the valves need cleaning?

Yes. Rinse the valves and flush the tube between crops so the floats move freely. If you run nutrient solution through the tank, keep the tank lidded and clean, because salts and algae are what gum a float up.

Welcome to The Grow Guys

We built The Grow Guys from the soil up — well, coco and perlite. Before we sold gear, we bought it, ran it, and learned the hard way what's worth the money and what ends up in the shed. That's the filter everything on our shelves passes through. No sales scripts, no rebadged junk, no telling you what you want to hear. Just gear we'd run ourselves and advice from people who actually grow. Chasing higher yields, tighter flowers, or your first harvest? You're in the right place.
