Seeds and cuttings are at their most fragile before they have roots, and what those roots grow into decides how fast they get going. SuperSeed is Bio Diesel's premium seed raising mix: coco fibre, crushed perlite, vermiculite, sphagnum peat and fine-screened worm castings, inoculated with mycorrhizal fungi and Azospirillum so new roots meet beneficial biology from the first day. It is built light and fluffy for both seeds and cuttings, and designed as the stage before transplant into living soil or coco fibre. It is not a hydro medium and it is not sold as certified organic, but if you run a soil or coco program and want a starter mix that sits on the same page, this is the one. Comes in a 10L or 30L bucket.

Microbes already in the mixMycorrhizal fungi and Azospirillum are blended in by Bio Diesel, so roots start working with beneficial biology straight away instead of waiting for you to add it after transplant.
Light and fluffy by designCoco, crushed perlite, vermiculite and sphagnum peat keep the mix open and airy, so fine new roots push through easily rather than fighting a dense, heavy starter.
Not a bare starterFine-screened worm castings and the essential minerals Bio Diesel builds in mean young plants are not sitting in an inert, nutrient-free medium while they establish.
One mix for seeds and cuttingsSow seed or strike cuttings in the same bucket. No need to keep a separate germination mix and a separate cloning medium on the shelf.
Made for living soil and cocoBio Diesel designed SuperSeed as the step before transplant into living soil or coco fibre, so it slots straight into either program.
30L is 35% cheaper per litreThe 10L bucket works out at $2.80 a litre, the 30L at $1.83. Same mix, so if you propagate regularly the bigger bucket is the smarter buy.

Grower's Tip

  • Wet the mix before it goes into cells. Dry peat and coco can shed water at first, so work water through it by hand until it is evenly damp and holds together when squeezed without dripping.
  • Fill loosely and do not pack it down. The air in this mix is what you are paying for, and compressing it undoes the job.
  • Water gently from below or with a fine rose so seed is not washed out and the surface does not crust.
  • Hold off on extra feed at the start. The castings and minerals are already there, so watch the plants and only feed once they show they need it.
  • Skip fungicide drenches on this mix. Many will knock back the mycorrhizae that make SuperSeed worth buying.
  • For cuttings, make the hole first with a pencil or dibber so the stem and any rooting gel are not scraped off on the way in.
  • Transplant the whole plug. That root ball carries the colonised biology with it into the living soil or coco.
  • This is a living product. Keep the lid on and store the bucket somewhere cool and out of direct sun.

How To Use It

1Moisten. Tip what you need into a clean tub, add water a little at a time and mix by hand until it is evenly damp, not wet.
2Fill. Fill cells, pots or trays loosely, give them a light tap to settle the mix, and leave it uncompressed.
3Sow or strike. Sow seed at the depth on the packet. For cuttings, make a hole first, set the stem in and firm the mix lightly around it.
4Keep it damp and humid. Keep the mix moist but never waterlogged. Cuttings do best under a humidity dome while they root. Give them the light their variety needs.
5Transplant. Once roots show at the drainage holes, move the whole plug into living soil or coco fibre without breaking up the root ball.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use SuperSeed for cuttings as well as seeds?

Yes. The light, open structure suits both. Make a hole before you set each cutting so the stem is not scraped, and keep cuttings humid while they root.

Do I need to add mycorrhizae to SuperSeed?

No. Bio Diesel inoculates the mix with mycorrhizal fungi and Azospirillum, so the biology is already in the bucket. Keep fungicide drenches away from it so you do not knock it back.

Do I need to feed seedlings growing in SuperSeed?

No, not at the start. Worm castings and essential minerals are built into the mix. Watch the plants, and once they show they need more, feed lightly or move them on to living soil or coco.

Is SuperSeed certified organic?

No. Bio Diesel does not market SuperSeed as certified organic, so we do not either. It is made from coco fibre, peat, perlite, vermiculite and worm castings, plus beneficial microbes.

Can I use SuperSeed in a hydroponic system?

No. It is a loose mix designed to start plants that are going into living soil or coco fibre. For hydro systems, start in an inert plug or cube from our rockwool and cubes range.

What is the difference between the 10L and 30L?

Only the size. It is the same mix in both buckets, and the 30L works out 35% cheaper per litre ($1.83 against $2.80).

How should I store an opened bucket?

Keep the lid on and store it somewhere cool and out of direct sun. The mix carries living microbes, so treat it like a living product and do not leave it baking in a hot shed.

Growers First, Retailers Second

Welcome to The Grow Guys

We built The Grow Guys from the soil up — well, coco and perlite. Before we sold gear, we bought it, ran it, and learned the hard way what's worth the money and what ends up in the shed. That's the filter everything on our shelves passes through. No sales scripts, no rebadged junk, no telling you what you want to hear. Just gear we'd run ourselves and advice from people who actually grow. Chasing higher yields, tighter flowers, or your first harvest? You're in the right place.
