The Bluelab pH and Conductivity Starter Pack puts the two measurements every grower needs in one box: pH tells you whether your plants can actually absorb their food, EC tells you how much food is in the water. You get the Bluelab pH Pen, the Bluelab Conductivity Pen, and the full Probe Care Kit with everything needed to hydrate, calibrate, clean and store both pens — plus access to the Bluelab Grow Book. One purchase, complete reservoir control from day one.

Both Fundamentals CoveredpH, EC/ppm and temperature from two purpose-built pens — the complete picture of your nutrient solution.
Care Kit IncludedpH 7.0 and 4.0 calibration sachets, KCl storage solution, 2.77 EC standard, probe cleaners, cups and brush — no extra purchases to get started properly.
Fully Waterproof, They FloatBoth pens are built for nutrient reservoirs — drop one in and fish it out, no damage done.
Better Value Than Pens AloneThe pH Pen can't take its first reading without KCl and calibration solutions — buy the pens bare and you're buying those anyway. Here the full care kit is in the box for a few dollars more.

Grow Guys Tip — The pH Pen Probe Must Never Dry Out
  • Bluelab's manual puts it bluntly: if it dries, it dies. Before first use, stand the pH Pen upright in a small container with enough KCl storage solution (included in your care kit) to submerge the probe tip, and soak for at least 24 hours. Never use RO, distilled or deionised water — pure water kills the probe.
  • Every week, add 3–5 drops of KCl solution into the wetting seal inside the storage cap, and always rinse the probe in fresh water before recapping after use.
  • The Conductivity Pen needs none of this — no glass bulb, no hydration. Just rinse it after each use and clean the probe face fortnightly with the included cleaner or an unscented cream cleanser like Jif.

Getting Started

1Hydrate the pH Pen: remove the storage cap, stand the pen upright in a small container, add enough KCl storage solution to submerge the probe tip, and leave it for at least 24 hours. Rinse the tip in fresh water afterwards.
2Calibrate the pH Pen to 2 points using the included sachets — always pH 7.0 first, then pH 4.0 (or 10.0 if your readings normally sit above 7). It won't hold calibration on 7.0 alone. Recalibrate after every clean, after battery changes, and when the on-screen check mark disappears at 30 days.
3The Conductivity Pen is factory calibrated — turn it on and start reading. If you ever want to verify it, clean the probe first, then check against the included 2.77 EC standard solution.
4Dip both pens in your reservoir, wait for the readings to stabilise, and adjust your solution. Rinse both probes in fresh water after every use — recap the pH Pen, and give the EC probe face a proper clean every two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the starter pack ready to use out of the box?

Partly. The Conductivity Pen is factory calibrated and ready immediately. The pH Pen needs a minimum 24-hour hydration soak in the included KCl storage solution, then a 2-point calibration with the included pH 7.0 and 4.0 sachets before its first reading.

What's included in the Probe Care Kit?

The pH and Conductivity care kit contains pH 7.0, pH 4.0 and KCl storage solution sachets, 2.77 EC standard solution, probe cleaners, cleaning instruments and plastic cups — everything to hydrate, calibrate, clean and store both pens.

Is the pH Pen's probe replaceable?

No. The pH Pen uses a fixed double-junction probe. If you want a pen with a replaceable probe, look at the Bluelab pH PenPlus — when its probe eventually wears out you screw in a new one instead of replacing the pen.

Are the pens waterproof?

Yes, both pens are fully waterproof and float, provided the battery cap is fastened down with no gap between cap and body.

Is the pack better value than buying the pens separately?

Yes. The pack costs only a few dollars more than the two pens alone and includes the full Probe Care Kit — the KCl storage solution and pH calibration sachets the pH Pen must have before its first reading, plus the 2.77 EC standard, probe cleaners and cups. Buy the pens bare and you're purchasing those solutions separately anyway.

How often does the pH Pen need calibrating?

Calibrate before first use, after every clean, after changing the battery, and whenever the check mark disappears from the screen — it fades 30 days after the last calibration as a built-in reminder. Always 2 points: pH 7.0 first, then 4.0 or 10.0.
