The Bluelab pH PenPlus is a handheld pH and temperature meter with a replaceable probe — when the probe wears out, you screw in a new Bluelab pH ProbePlus instead of binning the whole pen. Built in New Zealand to IP68 waterproof standards with a double-junction probe, backlit display and simple 2-point calibration, it's the long-service upgrade to the classic Bluelab pH Pen that growers have trusted for over a decade.
Specifications
- The glass bulb must be hydrated in KCl storage solution for 24 hours before first calibration. A dehydrated probe drifts, reads stuck near pH 7 and can be permanently damaged — this is the single most skipped step with pH pens.
- Never soak or store the probe in RO, distilled or deionised water — pure water changes the reference chemistry and kills the probe. KCl only.
- Keep a spare pH ProbePlus on the shelf and hydrate it 24 hours before swapping — Bluelab's own tip for zero downtime mid-crop.
- Calibrate monthly with fresh pH 7.0 and 4.0 solution — the pen's 30-day reminder tracks it for you.

Do I need to soak the probe before first use?
Yes. Hydrate the probe tip in KCl storage solution for at least 24 hours before calibrating. Skipping this leaves the glass bulb dehydrated — readings drift, sit stuck near pH 7 and the probe can be permanently damaged. Never hydrate in RO, distilled or deionised water.
Is the probe on the pH PenPlus replaceable?
Yes. The screw-cap probe design lets you swap in a new Bluelab pH ProbePlus when the original wears, so you replace the probe rather than the whole pen. Hydrate and calibrate every new probe before use.
Is the pH PenPlus waterproof?
Yes. It carries an IP68 dustproof and waterproof rating, so it handles wet grow rooms, reservoirs and greenhouse conditions.
What is the difference between the pH Pen and the pH PenPlus?
The PenPlus adds a replaceable double-junction probe, a 2-year pen warranty and IP68 construction. The standard pH Pen has a fixed probe — when it wears out, the whole pen is replaced.
Does it measure temperature as well as pH?
Yes. It reads solution temperature from 0–50°C with automatic temperature compensation and displays in Celsius or Fahrenheit alongside the pH reading.
Does calibration solution come included?
Yes. It ships with pH 4.0 and pH 7.0 calibration sachets plus KCl storage solution, so you can hydrate, calibrate and start measuring without buying anything extra.
