Pairs well with
A 10 x 25cm biodegradable yellow sticky trap from Bugs for Bugs — the colour and glue combination commercial Australian growers have relied on for early detection of whitefly, aphids, fungus gnats and thrips. Peel, fold, hang from the supplied twist-tie. Glue on both sides, grid printed for counting, non-toxic and water-repellent.
Specifications
- Hang at canopy height, not above it — flying pests cruise the canopy, not the ceiling.
- One trap per square metre is a solid monitoring baseline for indoor grows. Double up near doors, vents and intake fans where pests come in.
- Check weekly and write the count down. Trend matters more than total — a trap going from 3 to 30 bugs in a week is a red flag.
- Don't leave traps out in heavy rain or under overhead irrigation — the cardboard will deteriorate.
- Replace once the glue is mostly covered with bugs or dust — they stop catching long before they look "full."
How To Use
Pairs Well With
Sprays, predators and barrier products to follow up once monitoring shows you've got pressure.
Environmental MonitorsPair pest counts with temp and humidity logs — most outbreaks correlate with environmental drift.
Grow TentsA sealed tent with traps at every opening is the cleanest pest-prevention setup you can run.
Inline & Exhaust FansHang a trap right at the intake — bugs riding airflow get caught before they reach the canopy.
FAQ
Can these be shipped to Victoria?
No. Bugs for Bugs sticky traps are currently unable to be sent into Victoria. If your delivery address is in VIC, please choose a different monitoring product — this is a supplier-side restriction, not something we can override at our end.
What pests does the yellow trap actually catch?
Yellow is the colour flying insects associate with new foliage, so this trap pulls in whitefly, aphids, fungus gnats, thrips, leafhoppers and leaf miners. For thrips and leaf miners specifically, blue traps tend to outperform — but yellow gives the broadest catch across the most common indoor pests.
Will it catch beneficial insects too?
Yes, occasionally. The trap doesn't discriminate, so released predators or pollinators can stick if they cross it. If you're running an active biocontrol program, take traps down 24-48 hours before a release and put them back up once predators have settled into the canopy.
How long does each trap last?
Depends on pest pressure and conditions. In a clean indoor environment with low pressure a trap can stay up several months. Under heavy pressure or in dusty conditions it'll be ready to swap within 3-4 weeks. Replace once the glue is mostly covered — it stops catching well before it looks "full."
Is the glue safe around pets, kids and food crops?
Yes. The Stikem adhesive is non-toxic and food-safe — full safety data sheet is linked in the specs above. Standard sense applies: hang traps out of reach of curious pets and small kids so they don't grab them and get stuck to themselves.
Can I use it outdoors?
Yes, but with limits. Sheltered outdoor positions (under eaves, in a polyhouse, on a covered patio) are fine. Extended exposure to heavy rain or overhead irrigation will deteriorate the cardboard backing — the glue itself is water-repellent but the substrate isn't.
