Fabric pots are the easiest upgrade most growers will make to their root zone. The breathable geo-textile wall lets oxygen flow through to the roots from every angle, drains freely, and air-prunes the roots the moment they hit the edge of the pot — no more circling, no more root-bound stress. Available in nine sizes from 5L right up to 90L, with hook-and-loop side openings on the small sizes and wire-rim self-supporting tops on everything 15L and above.

Air-Pruned Roots Roots stop dead at the fabric wall and branch into dense feeders instead of spiralling.
All-Round Aeration Oxygen reaches the root ball through the pot wall, keeping beneficial microbes active.
Drains Like a Dream Free drainage through the base and walls makes over-watering almost impossible.
Cooler Root Zone Evaporative effect through the fabric keeps the root ball cool in summer heat.
Hydro-Ready Works in soil, coco, and flood-and-drain hydroponic systems.
Flat-Pack & Reusable Ships flat, fills out instantly, and stands up to multiple seasons of use.

Grower's Tip — Water More Often, Not More Heavily
  • Fabric pots dry out faster than plastic — that's the trade-off for the aeration benefits. Plan to water more frequently, especially in warmer months.
  • Sit pots on a saucer or run-off tray indoors. Water moves through the walls as well as the base.
  • Larger pots (40L+) stay open and stable once filled with media. The wire rim helps you scoop substrate in cleanly.
  • For the 5L and 10L sizes, the side hook-and-loop opening makes transplanting the entire root ball intact — gently peel the side open and slide the plant out.

How to Use Fabric Pots

1
Unpack & shape. Open the flat-packed pot and shake it out. For the 5L and 10L sizes, check the side tab is closed firmly before filling.
2
Position on a tray. Sit the pot on a run-off tray or saucer — water exits the base and lower walls, so a flat surface alone isn't enough indoors.
3
Fill with your medium. Coco coir, premium potting mix, soil-blend, or a coco-perlite combination all work. Fill to about 2 cm below the rim.
4
Plant and water in. Settle the seedling or transplant, firm the medium gently, and water until you see run-off through the walls and base.
5
Adjust your watering rhythm. Check moisture by lifting the pot — fabric pots dry from the outside in. Water when the medium feels dry 2–3 cm down.
6
Reuse season after season. Empty out used media, shake clean, hand-wash or machine-wash on a gentle cycle, and dry fully before storing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do fabric pots dry out faster than plastic?

Yes — that's the trade-off for the aeration and air-pruning benefits. Plan to water more frequently, particularly in summer or under strong indoor lighting. A self-watering base or daily check is the simplest solution.

Can fabric pots be reused?

Yes — they're built for multiple seasons. Empty the used media, shake clean, hand-wash or machine-wash on a gentle cycle, and dry fully before storing. If you've had pests or root disease, sanitise the pot in a mild bleach solution before the next planting.

What size fabric pot do I need?

Match the pot to the plant's final root mass and how long it'll stay in there. 5L–10L suits seedlings, herbs, and short-cycle crops. 15L–25L covers most medium-stature plants and photoperiod-sensitive crops. 30L–50L handles vigorous indoor or patio plants. 90L is for trees, large outdoor specimens, and long-term raised-bed-style setups.

Are they suitable for hydroponics?

Yes — fabric pots work in flood-and-drain (ebb-and-flow) systems and as top-fed containers. The breathable walls let nutrient solution absorb evenly through the root zone. Sit them on a tray, not directly in standing solution.

Why does the 5L and 10L have a side opening?

The hook-and-loop side tab on the smaller sizes lets you transplant the entire root ball without disturbing it — peel open the side, slide the plant out, and place it straight into its next home. It's the gentlest way to move a young plant up a pot size.

Will the larger pots collapse when I fill them?

No — every size from 15L upwards has a wire rim that holds the pot open and self-supports the shape while you add media. The 5L and 10L sit comfortably once filled but don't have a wire rim.

Do I need a saucer or tray underneath?

Yes for indoor use — water drains through the walls as well as the base, so a flat surface alone isn't enough to catch run-off. A run-off tray or self-watering base is the simplest solution. Outdoors on soil or paving, a saucer is optional.
