The Gavita Enhanced 400W HPS Lamp is the European horticultural lighting standard — engineered specifically to handle the high-frequency output of modern digital ballasts without arc-tube distortion or premature wire-frame failure. With 56,500 lumens, 710 µMol PPF, and over 95% light maintenance after 5,000 hours, this is the lamp commercial growers reach for when they want consistent yields with minimal degradation across the full crop cycle.

710 µMol PPF Output High photosynthetic photon flux — more usable plant light per watt than standard 400W HPS bulbs.
95%+ Light Maintenance Holds over 95% of initial output after 5,000 hours — change lamps once a year, not every cycle.
Digital Ballast Tuned Reinforced wire frame and tuned arc tube built for high-frequency electronic ballasts including DigiStar.
Enhanced Spectrum Mostly orange-red for serious flower output, with enough blue to support full-cycle growth.

Heads Up — Lamp Care Basics
  • This is a single-ended lamp with an E40 mogul base — fits any standard SE reflector. Not for double-ended (DE) fixtures.
  • Engineered specifically for electronic / digital ballasts. Will run on quality magnetic ballasts but performance is optimised for digital.
  • Run new lamps at 100% output for the first 100 hours to stabilise — only dim or boost after that initial burn-in.
  • Wattage must match exactly. A 400W lamp needs a 400W ballast.
  • Always handle with clean gloves or a soft cloth. Skin oils on the quartz cause hot spots and shorten lamp life.
  • Always operate in a properly ventilated reflector — HID lamps run hot.

How To Use

1
Confirm your ballast is a 400W electronic / digital unit and your reflector has an E40 mogul socket.
2
Power down everything and let any previous lamp cool fully before swapping. Use clean gloves or a cloth when handling the new bulb.
3
Screw the lamp firmly but not forcibly into your reflector socket — just enough to seat properly without over-tightening.
4
Hang the reflector at 30–60cm above your canopy and check airflow is dialled in — 400W HPS runs hot.
5
Run the lamp at 100% for the first 100 hours to stabilise output. Only start dimming or boosting after that burn-in period.
6
Plan replacement at 12-month intervals. With over 95% maintenance at 5,000 hours, output stays consistent until then.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Gavita Enhanced different from a standard 400W HPS?

Two things. First, the wire support frame is reinforced specifically to handle the high-frequency output of digital ballasts (28–110 kHz) — without that, acoustic resonance bends and distorts the frame over time. Second, the arc tube is tuned for optimal output at high frequency. Standard HPS lamps weren't designed for digital ballasts and degrade faster on them.

Will it work with my magnetic ballast?

Yes — the Gavita Enhanced runs on both magnetic and electronic ballasts. The reinforced construction means it lasts longer on either type. That said, the lamp is engineered specifically for digital ballasts and you'll get the best output and lifespan from a quality electronic unit.

What does 710 µMol mean?

µMol (micromoles per second) measures photosynthetic photon flux — the actual amount of usable plant light a lamp produces. Lumens measure brightness as humans see it; µMol measures what plants use. At 710 µMol, this lamp puts out roughly 15–20% more usable plant light than standard 400W HPS bulbs.

What size space does a 400W HPS cover?

A 400W HPS comfortably covers a 1.2m x 1.2m flowering footprint, or up to 1.5m x 1.5m for veg or supplemental lighting. Hang at 30–60cm above the canopy and adjust as plants grow into the light.

How long does this lamp last?

Gavita Enhanced lamps are rated to maintain over 95% output after 5,000 hours of operation. Most growers replace them once a year — well within that 5,000-hour window. Compared to budget HPS lamps that drop output noticeably after a few cycles, you'll get more consistent yields across the lamp's full service life.

Why is this lamp more expensive than a generic 400W HPS?

Gavita is a Dutch horticulture lighting brand built for commercial growers. The Enhanced range uses a reinforced wire frame, a tuned arc tube, and tighter manufacturing tolerances — which means higher µMol output, better light maintenance, and longer service life on digital ballasts. You're paying for engineering, not branding.

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes. Gavita backs every lamp with a one-year manufacturer warranty against defects. Keep your packaging and proof of purchase in case you need to make a claim.

Do you ship Australia-wide?

Yes — we ship across Australia from our Tasmanian base. Free shipping kicks in over $499*. HID lamps are packed carefully to handle transit, but if anything arrives damaged, give us a yell and we'll sort it.

European Engineering. Commercial-Grade Output.

56,500 lumens, 710 µMol, 95% maintenance — the lamp commercial growers reach for.
