Scarid 10 by Nulife Technologies is a registered pyrethroid insecticide that prevents scarid fly (fungus gnat) infestations before they take hold in your root zone. The 10g/L deltamethrin concentrate is applied as a weekly barrier spray to the top of your growing medium at 30mL per litre of water — creating a residual coating that stops adult flies from landing and laying eggs. Break the lifecycle at the surface, keep the larvae off your roots. This isn't a fix-it-after-the-fact product. It's a clean preventative for growers who've been hit once and don't want a repeat performance.

10g/L Deltamethrin Registered synthetic pyrethroid with proven residual knockdown of adult scarid flies in protected cropping and hydroponic setups.
Breaks the Lifecycle The residual coating stops adults landing and laying on the medium surface, so larvae never reach the root zone to feed.
Weekly Barrier Spray Simple weekly application at 30mL per litre, sprayed on the medium surface only. No plant contact, no leaf burn concerns.
Clear Label, Clear Use Registered pesticide with defined application rates and safety direction. Follow the label, use full PPE, and keep it out of reach.

Safety and resistance — read before you spray
  • Deltamethrin is toxic to aquatic life, bees, and beneficial insects. Do not spray reservoirs, nutrient tanks, or flowering plants that pollinators visit.
  • Spray the medium surface only. Direct contact with leaves, stems, or flowering sites is outside the registered use pattern and risks damage.
  • Full PPE is not optional: gloves, long sleeves, eye protection, and a P2 respirator. Ventilate the grow space during and after application.
  • Pyrethroids build resistance fast. Don't rely on Scarid 10 as your only scarid fly control — pair it with sticky traps, beneficial mites, or a BTI drench.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during application.

How to Apply (Weekly Preventative Spray)

1
Mix the spray. Add 30mL of Scarid 10 per 1 litre of water. A 100mL bottle makes around 3.3 litres of finished spray — plenty for the surface area of most home and small commercial setups. Use a syringe or pipette to measure accurately.
2
Suit up. Gloves, long sleeves, safety glasses, P2 respirator. Deltamethrin is a pyrethroid — treat it with the respect a registered insecticide deserves. Keep pets and kids out of the room.
3
Time it right. Apply when lights are off or dimmed. Ventilate well during spraying and for at least 30 minutes after to clear residue from the air.
4
Spray the medium, not the plant. Aim the nozzle low and coat the top of the growing medium evenly. Avoid hitting leaves, stems, roots, or flowering sites. The residual coating on the medium surface is what does the work.
5
Weekly cadence. Repeat every 7 days during high-risk periods — propagation, veg, and early flower. Scale back or stop in late flower to protect late-stage quality.
6
Support the spray. Let the surface of your medium dry out between waterings — scarid flies breed in constantly wet substrate. Drop the surface moisture and you cut the infestation pressure in half before the spray even touches it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are scarid flies actually damaging, or just annoying?

Yes, they're damaging. The small adult flies are mostly a nuisance, but the larvae live in your growing medium and feed on plant roots and fine root hairs. A serious infestation stunts growth, weakens the plant, and spreads root-zone pathogens like Pythium and Fusarium. Young plants and clones take the worst of it — a bad outbreak can wipe a propagation tent.

Can I spray Scarid 10 directly on my plants?

No. Scarid 10 is registered for application to the surface of the growing medium only. Spraying leaves, stems, or flowering sites falls outside the registered use pattern and risks plant damage. Keep your nozzle low, aim for the medium, and avoid splash onto the plant.

How often should I apply it?

Once per week as a preventative during high-risk periods — propagation, vegetative growth, and early flower. In humid climates or continuous cropping setups, weekly through most of the cycle makes sense. Scale back or stop in late flower (roughly the last 2 to 3 weeks) to respect residue and quality concerns.

Is Scarid 10 safe to use with biological pest controls like Hypoaspis mites?

No. Deltamethrin is a broad-spectrum pyrethroid and will kill predatory mites, parasitic wasps, and other beneficials on contact. If you're running biological controls, use Scarid 10 as a reset tool before introducing predators — not alongside them. Let the product residue clear (at minimum a few weeks) before releasing beneficials into the same media.

Is this product organic or suitable for certified organic growing?

No. Scarid 10 contains 10g/L deltamethrin, a registered synthetic pyrethroid — not suitable for certified organic operations. For organic scarid fly management, the best tools are Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis (BTI) as a drench, Hypoaspis miles predatory mites in the media, and yellow sticky traps at canopy height.

How long does a 100mL bottle last at 30mL per litre?

A 100mL bottle makes roughly 3.3 litres of finished spray at the preventative rate. You're only spraying the medium surface, not the whole plant or room, so 3.3 litres covers a lot of pot or tray surface. For most home and small commercial setups, one bottle lasts multiple grow cycles of weekly preventative application.

Can Scarid 10 be used as a drench or a system flush?

The product label does include two additional use patterns — a one-off drench at 5mL per litre applied by watering can to semi-dry media, and a system flush at 0.5mL per litre in a nutrient tank (minus nutrient) run for 2 hours before dumping, flushing, and remixing. These are for dealing with existing larval infestations rather than preventative control. The preventative weekly spray is the primary registered use and the one most growers stick to. If you need the drench or flush procedures, check the label that ships with the bottle for exact directions.

What's the difference between Scarid 10 and Kill-A-Mite?

Different pests, different chemistry. Scarid 10 is 10g/L deltamethrin (a pyrethroid) for scarid fly prevention, applied to the medium surface. Kill-A-Mite is 18g/L abamectin for two-spotted mite, russet mite, and tobacco leafminer, applied as a foliar spray to the leaves. They cover different problems and are not interchangeable — if you've got a mite issue, use Kill-A-Mite; if you've got a scarid fly issue, use Scarid 10.
