Precision scales drift. It's just physics — every load cell ages, every knock or drop micro-shifts the calibration, every temperature swing affects the reading. The On Balance Calibration Weight Set gives you the five stainless-steel reference weights every precision pocket scale needs to stay accurate over its working life: 1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 20 g, and 100 g, plus a soft carry bag to keep them clean and contained. If you own a 0.01 g scale, you need calibration weights. This set covers every On Balance scale in our lineup and most other consumer precision scales as well.

Five Reference Weights 1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 20 g, and 100 g. Covers the calibration prompt values for every On Balance scale and most consumer precision scales.
Stainless Steel Construction Corrosion-resistant, low magnetic susceptibility, machined to consumer-precision mass tolerance.
Carry Bag Included Soft drawstring bag keeps the weights clean, contained, and ready to grab from your tool bag or bench drawer.
Closes the Maintenance Gap On Balance scales ship factory-calibrated but without check weights. This set is the missing piece.

How to Look After Calibration Weights
  • Recalibrate scales at the start of any session where accuracy matters. The weights make it a 30-second job.
  • Always handle the weights with clean tweezers or via the carry bag — skin oils and fingerprints add measurable mass at 0.01 g resolution.
  • Store dry. Humidity won't damage stainless, but keeping them clean keeps them accurate.
  • Don't drop them. Impact damage to a calibration weight changes its mass enough to affect calibration accuracy.
  • For consumer-grade precision scales only — not certified to OIML or NIST traceable laboratory standards.

How to Calibrate Your Scale

1
Place your scale on a flat, stable, draught-free surface. Power it on and let it settle to 0.00 g.
2
Enter calibration mode. The exact button sequence varies by scale — check the quick-guide on the cover or the manual. The scale will display a target value (commonly 50 g, 100 g, or the scale's full capacity).
3
Pick the matching weight from the set and place it gently in the centre of the platform. Use clean tweezers or pinch the carry bag — keep your fingers off the weight itself.
4
Wait for the scale to lock in the reading. Most scales display "PASS" or return to weighing mode when calibration is complete.
5
Verify by placing a different known weight on the platform — the reading should match the stamped value. If it does, you're calibrated. Pack everything back in the bag.

FAQ

Why do I need calibration weights?

Scales drift. Load cells age, knocks shift the calibration, temperature changes affect the reading, and storage conditions matter. A calibration weight lets you bring the scale back to factory accuracy in 30 seconds. Without one, you can't verify whether your scale is reading correctly — and a scale you can't trust is worse than no scale at all.

Which On Balance scales is this set compatible with?

All of them. The five weights cover the calibration prompt values for the Mini MZ, Envy NV-500, SBS-200, 710-Pro, and Tuff Weigh series. The 100 g weight handles the 100 g and 200 g scales; the 50 g and lower handle the higher-resolution prompts. Most other consumer precision scales (Truweigh, Kenex, Infyniti, etc.) work with the same weight values.

Are these OIML or NIST traceable?

No. These are working calibration weights for consumer precision scales — accurate enough to recalibrate scales reading 0.01 g, but not certified to laboratory metrology standards. For NIST or OIML traceable weights you'd need to go through a metrology supplier; expect to pay 5–10x the price for the same physical weights with a calibration certificate attached.

How accurate are the weights?

Manufactured to consumer-precision tolerance. The weights are accurate enough to recalibrate scales reading 0.01 g resolution — that's the use case they're designed for. They're not lab-grade reference standards, but they're well-matched to the scales they go with.

Can I use them with non-On Balance scales?

Yes. Most consumer precision scales prompt for the same calibration weight values (commonly 50 g, 100 g, or 200 g). As long as your scale prompts for one of the values in this set, it'll work. Check your scale's manual for the specific calibration weight value it expects.

How often should I recalibrate?

Depends on use. For occasional weighing, once every few months is plenty. For daily precision work, recalibrate at the start of any session where accuracy matters. After moving the scale, dropping it, or storing it for a long stretch, always recalibrate before relying on the readings.
