SeaHawk Hydro Film — also known as panda film — is a double-sided black-and-white reflective sheet built for lining grow rooms, grow tents, and any indoor space where you need to bounce light back at your plants and block it from escaping. At a genuine 220μm thick, it's substantially heavier than the thin 150–200μm films most stores carry, which means it won't crease into pinhole leaks or tear at the staple line. White side faces the plants for maximum reflectivity, black side faces out for total light blockout. Available in cut-to-length metres or pre-packaged 5m, 10m and 30m sizes.
Select Size
The 1m option is sold per lineal metre — adjust the quantity in your cart to set total length. The 5m and 10m sizes ship folded in a carton; the 30m ships as a roll folded twice to fit on a 750mm core.
Specifications
- Mount the white side facing inward toward your plants — that's the reflective side.
- Pull the film taut before fixing it down. Loose film creates dead spots where reflection drops off.
- For grow rooms, lap seams by 50mm and run a strip of foil tape over the join to seal light leaks.
- Wipe down monthly with a damp microfibre cloth. Dust and residue cut reflectivity noticeably over a season.
- For the 1m cut-to-length option, set the quantity in your cart to the total metres you need. We'll send it as one continuous piece.
How to Install
Pairs Well With
Already have a tent? Use this film to line the surrounding room and stop ambient light bouncing back into your seals.
Inline & Exhaust FansA properly sealed room needs air movement to prevent heat buildup. Match your lined room with the right inline fan.
Carbon Filters & Odour ControlSealed rooms hold smell. Pair your lining with a carbon filter sized to your exhaust flow.
Grow LightingMore reflection means more usable light. Lining + the right LED or HID fixture is the fastest yield bump there is.
FAQ
Is hydro film the same thing as panda film?
Yes. Hydro film and panda film are the same product under different names. The "panda" name comes from the black-and-white two-tone look. You'll see both terms used across Australian hydroponics — they refer to the same double-sided reflective sheet.
Which side faces the plants?
The white side faces the plants. White reflects light back to the canopy. The black side faces outward to block ambient light from entering the room and to prevent any internal light from leaking out.
How much do I need for a typical grow room?
As a rough rule, calculate your total wall and ceiling area in square metres, divide by 3 (the film width) to get linear metres of film, then add 10% for overlap and cutting waste. A 2.4m × 2.4m room with 2.1m ceilings comes in around 25m of film. A larger room of 3m × 3m with the same ceiling height needs around 33m — go with the 30m roll plus a few extra cut metres.
Is 220μm thick enough, or do I need 250μm?
Yes, 220μm is more than enough for any grow room application. Many films marketed as "250μm" actually measure thinner than this SeaHawk product when checked with calipers. At 220μm you get full opacity, no pinhole leaks, and the film holds up to staples and tape without tearing. Going thicker just adds weight and cost without practical benefit.
Can I use panda film outdoors?
Yes. The film is UV resistant and suitable for outdoor use as a temporary blackout cover, greenhouse lining, or light-deprivation rig. It's not designed as a permanent roofing material and won't last decades exposed to the elements, but for season-on-season use it holds up well.
How is the 1m cut-to-length option sold?
The 1m variant is priced per lineal metre at $10/m. Add the variant to your cart and adjust the quantity to set your total length — for example, 8 units means an 8m continuous length. We cut it as a single piece, not as eight separate metre pieces.
Does the 30m roll qualify for free shipping?
No. The 30m roll is a bulky item folded on a 750mm core and falls outside our standard free-shipping-over-$499* policy. It may attract additional freight charges depending on your postcode. Contact us before ordering if you'd like a freight quote. The 1m, 5m and 10m options ship under the standard free-shipping policy.
