The Smart Speed Controller by HVC is a wall-mounted thermostatic controller for Headwind HVC EC inline fans. Plug in up to four fans, set your target temperature, and it adjusts fan speed automatically as the room warms or cools — no power point required, because it draws power straight through the fan connection. The thermal probe is included in the box.

Runs Four Fans at OnceFour OUT ports control up to 4 EC fans simultaneously from one screen, connected with standard 3.5mm jack wires.
Set-and-Forget Auto ModePick a target between 0–60°C and the controller steps fan speed up one level for every 2°C the room drifts over it.
No Power Point NeededPowered directly through the connected fan — no cord, no adaptor, one less plug taken up in your tent.
Knows When a Fan FailsReads each fan's tachometer signal and beeps with an E1–E4 error code telling you exactly which port has the problem.

Grow Guys Tips
  • Hang the probe at canopy height, out of the direct light beam — that's the temperature your plants actually feel.
  • Connect fans to consecutive OUT ports starting from OUT1, and set fan-failure detection to match your fan count — a port flagged with no fan attached throws false alarms.
  • Want the fans fully off once you hit target? Set the Auto mode baseline speed to 0. Baseline 1–3 keeps gentle airflow ticking over instead.

Setup in Four Steps

1
Fix the mounting bracket to the wall with the included screws and slide the controller onto it.
2
Plug the thermal probe into the NTC port, then connect your EC fans to OUT1 onward with the 3.5mm jack wires. The screen lights up as soon as the first fan is connected.
3
Hold the MODE button for 3 seconds to switch between Auto (AUTO icon) and Manual (hand icon).
4
In Auto, set your target temperature with the arrows, then press MODE once more to set the baseline speed the fans hold once the target is reached.

FAQ

Does the controller need its own power supply?

No. It draws power directly through the connected Headwind HVC EC fan — no power cord or adaptor is needed. The screen powers on once the probe and at least one fan are connected.

Can it run more than one fan?

Yes. It controls up to four EC fans at once through the OUT1–OUT4 ports, all following the same speed and temperature settings.

Will it work with any inline fan?

No. It's designed for Headwind HVC EC fans, which power the controller and accept its 3.5mm control connection. It won't drive standard AC fans.

Does it alert you if a fan stops working?

Yes. Each fan sends a tachometer signal, and if one fails the controller beeps and displays an E1–E4 code showing which port has the fault. Enable detection only for the ports you're using.

Is the thermal probe optional?

No. The controller can't operate without a working thermal probe — it displays an "Er" message if the probe is disconnected. One is included in the box.
