Gardening at waist height changes everything: no kneeling, no bending, no sore back after an hour of weeding. This Tall Oblong raised garden bed is 1600 x 600 x 800mm of Tasmanian made corrugated steel with a rolled safety top edge, and at 800mm tall you plant, weed and pick standing up. It comes in bare zinc ($245) or colour steel in Monument, Pale Eucalypt or Heritage Red ($305). No digging: set it on flat ground, fill it and plant. It suits veggie patches, no-dig and living soil beds, and anyone whose knees have had enough. The honest bit: a bed this deep takes a lot of fill, so plan your soil before it arrives, and we only deliver within Tasmania.

Grower's Tip
- Put the bed in its final spot before you fill it. Once it is full of soil, it is not moving.
- Going on lawn? Lay overlapping cardboard across the base first to smother the grass. Skip plastic weed mat: it stops worms and drainage moving between the bed and the ground.
- Check it is level end to end before filling. A lean shows up the moment soil goes in and water runs to one end.
- Fill with a blend, not one bag type. Quality soil, compost and some worm castings hold structure and life far better than straight potting mix, which slumps.
- Bulk out the bottom with coarse organic material like old branches and logs. It cuts how much soil you buy and breaks down into food for the bed over time.
- Leave room at the top. New beds settle over the first months, and you will want space to top up with compost each season.
- Lay drip line before you plant. It is a five-minute job in an empty bed and a fiddly one in a full one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to dig before setting it up?
No. It sits on any flat ground. On lawn, lay cardboard under it to smother the grass, then fill and plant.
Is the 800mm bed worth it over the 400mm?
Yes, if bending is the problem. You work it standing up, and you can bulk the bottom with branches and logs to keep the soil bill down.
Is the top edge sharp?
No. The top edge is rolled, so there is no raw cut lip to catch hands or arms.
What is the difference between zinc and colour?
Price and looks. Zinc is the bare steel finish at $245. Colour steel in Monument, Pale Eucalypt or Heritage Red is $305.
Can I put it on concrete or pavers?
Yes, as long as the surface is flat. Water drains out at the base, so expect some runoff and soil staining on hard surfaces.
How long does it take if you don't have it in stock?
About 3 to 4 weeks. We order your size and colour in and let you know when it lands.
Do you deliver?
Yes, within Tasmania. Choose Tasmanian delivery at checkout and we call you to quote it after you order, or pick up from our Invermay store. We don't ship garden beds to the mainland.
What should I fill it with?
A blend of quality soil and compost, with worm castings mixed into the top layer. Avoid straight bagged potting mix, which slumps over time.
