The Fly Trap is a silent, glue-card-based UV insect trap built for indoor pest pressure — the unit you set up high in the room (or just above pot height) and forget about. No zap, no fan noise, no chemical smell. Flying pests get pulled toward the UV light, hit a hidden sticky card, and stay there until you swap the card. Comes with five glue card refills. Best used as the trap-and-monitor leg of a real IPM program — adults caught here, larvae handled on the plant side.
Specifications
- For fungus gnats, place the unit just above pot height — that's where adults fly to lay eggs in damp media.
- For thrips, run it at canopy height where adults are flicking between leaves.
- Keep it away from competing bright lights — direct sun, HPS reflectors or LED arrays will drown out the UV draw.
- Photoperiod warning — never run this inside a flower tent during lights-off. UV leak during the dark cycle can trigger hermaphroditism, revegetation, or other stress responses in photoperiod-sensitive crops. Run it only when the lights are on, or position it outside the flower space.
How to Use

Frequently Asked Questions
Will The Fly Trap kill fungus gnat larvae in the soil?
No. The trap catches flying adults only. Larvae live in damp media and need a separate treatment — Scarid 10 worked into the top layer is the usual go-to. Use the trap to crash the adult population while the larval treatment breaks the breeding cycle underneath.
Can I run it inside a grow tent?
Yes — tents are one of the better environments for it. The enclosed space concentrates the UV draw and there's nowhere for pests to escape to. Mount it above pot height for gnats, or near canopy for thrips, and keep it clear of direct LED spill so the UV signal isn't drowned out. For photoperiod-sensitive crops in flower, only run the trap during lights-on hours.
Is it noisy or smelly?
No on both counts. There's no zap, no fan and no chemical action — just a UV lamp and a sticky card. The only smell you'll get is if you leave a loaded card in for months past its swap date, and that's easily avoided.
How often do the glue cards need replacing?
Every 2 to 4 weeks under normal pressure, sooner if you've got a heavy infestation. The unit ships with five cards, so you're set for a few months of swaps before reordering. Visual cue: when the card looks crowded or dusty, it's time.
Is it safe around pets, kids and beneficial insects?
Yes for pets and kids — there's no shock, no chemical, just a sticky card behind a panel. Keep it out of reach so curious hands don't touch the glue. For beneficials in a greenhouse, position the trap away from release zones during the days you're introducing biocontrols.
Can I run it 24/7?
It depends on what's in the room. For propagation under 24/0, autoflowers, kitchens or any non-photoperiod-sensitive space, yes — continuous operation is fine. For photoperiod-sensitive crops in flower, no — only run it during lights-on hours, or position it outside the flower tent. UV leak during the dark cycle can trigger hermaphroditism, revegetation, or photoperiod stress, which is a far worse outcome than a slightly slower catch rate.
Is it safe to run in a flower tent?
Only with the lights on. UV light during the dark cycle is a real photoperiod risk — it can trigger hermaphroditism (male flowers on female plants), revegetation, or stress responses that hurt yield and quality. Either run the trap on a timer synced to your lights-on hours, or place it outside the flower tent in the surrounding room where adults gather before they get in. The same rule applies to veg under 18/6. For propagation under 24/0 or autoflowers, you can run it continuously without worrying about photoperiod disruption.
How long until I see results?
Catches usually start within a few days. A heavy gnat population can take a couple of weeks of continuous running plus plant-side fixes — drying out pot tops, treating larvae, sealing entry points — to fully collapse. The trap is one tool in IPM, not a one-shot solution.
Does it cover a whole grow room?
Up to 120 sqm in an open indoor space per unit. If your space is partitioned by shelving, plant walls or dividers, run a second unit rather than expecting one to reach through obstructions.
