Grower's Tip
- Use plain tap water. This is the opposite of the advice you will read for household humidifiers — VIVOSUN specifically says not to use distilled or filtered water, and no oils or fragrances at all. Pure water can leave the sensor unable to read a full tank.
- Cuttings have no roots to drink with, so the air has to do the work. Hold humidity around 80-90% for the first week and you will move your strike rate further than with anything else you add to the tent.
- Start on intermittent, not continuous. In a small sealed space continuous mist will overshoot and leave you with water pooling on the tent walls. Intermittent also nearly doubles your runtime.
- Sit it outside the drip line of your light and away from the mist outlet's direct path onto foliage. You want the air humid, not the leaves wet.
- Buy a hygrometer if you do not have one. Running a humidifier without measuring is guessing, and this is the one variable in propagation where guessing costs you cuttings.
- Wipe the unit down with a soft damp cloth rather than rinsing it under the tap — the electronics are in the base.

What size space will it handle?
Small sealed ones. VIVOSUN designed it around their own 18 x 18 x 48in grow box and 20 x 14 x 21in clone tent, and states it is not recommended for larger tents or open areas. In practice that covers clone tents, propagation domes, grow boxes and cupboard-scale spaces. For a full 1.2 x 1.2m tent or a room, you want a larger unit.
Should I use distilled or filtered water?
No — and this catches people out, because it is the reverse of the usual advice for household humidifiers. VIVOSUN specifies ordinary tap water and warns against distilled water, filtered water, oils and perfumes. Very pure water can stop the low-water sensor reading correctly, and oils and fragrances will clog the transducer.
How long does a tank last?
Up to 28 hours on intermittent mode and up to 18 hours on continuous, from the 750ml tank. Output is 30 to 50ml per hour depending on the mode. Intermittent is the sensible default in a small sealed space: it lasts longer and it is far less likely to overshoot.
Does it need a mains powerpoint?
No. It runs on 5V DC through a 1.5m USB-C cable and draws only 1.5W, so any USB source will run it — a phone charger, a USB port on a fan controller, or a power bank. In a small tent where the light and heat mat already have the powerpoints, that is a practical advantage rather than a novelty.
What happens when it runs out of water?
It stops. A built-in sensor detects when the level drops below minimum and shuts the unit off automatically, so running it dry overnight will not damage the transducer. Refill it and it picks up on the mode it was last set to.
Can I control it from my phone?
Only as part of a VGrow system. The AeroStream integrates with the VIVOSUN app when it is paired with VGrow hardware. On its own it is a manual two-button unit — continuous or intermittent, with the mode remembered between runs.
Is it quiet enough to run at night?
Yes. It is rated under 28dB(A), which sits below the level of a quiet whisper. Ultrasonic humidifiers have no fan and no compressor — the mist comes off a vibrating plate — so there is very little to hear in the first place.
