The Bluelab pH ProbePlus is the replacement pH and temperature probe for the Bluelab pH PenPlus. When your probe reaches the end of its service life — or can no longer be calibrated — you swap this in with no tools and keep the pen. It's the whole point of the PenPlus design: replace the consumable part, not the instrument.

Check Compatibility Before Ordering The pH ProbePlus fits the Bluelab pH PenPlus only. It is not the BNC-connector Bluelab pH Probe used with Combo Meters, pH Meters and Guardian Monitors. If your device connects via a cable and BNC plug, you need the standard Bluelab pH Probe instead.
Tool-Free SwapUnscrew the collar, pull the old probe, seat the new one and screw it down — done in under a minute, no tools required.
pH and TemperatureRestores both measurements in one swap — full 0.0–14.0 pH range with the same ±0.1 accuracy the pen shipped with.
Double-Junction DesignResists reference contamination from nutrient-heavy solutions, supporting stable readings across the probe's working life.
Stays HydratedKCl-filled silicone storage cap with internal sponge keeps the glass bulb wet between uses — the single biggest factor in probe lifespan.

Grow Guys Tip — Hydrate the New Probe First
  • A new probe must be hydrated in KCl storage solution for at least 24 hours, then calibrated, before it goes anywhere near your reservoir. A dehydrated probe drifts, reads stuck near pH 7 and can be permanently damaged.
  • Calibration and storage solution are sold separately — add pH 7.0 and 4.0 calibration sachets plus KCl storage solution to your order so you can hydrate and calibrate the day it arrives.
  • Never soak or rinse it in RO, distilled or deionised water — pure water changes the reference chemistry and kills the probe.
  • Bluelab's own pro tip: keep a spare on hand and start hydrating it 24 hours before swapping out the old probe — zero downtime mid-crop.

How to Replace the Probe

1Hydrate the new probe. Soak the tip in KCl storage solution for at least 24 hours before installation. Never use RO, distilled or deionised water.
2Remove the old probe. Turn the pen off, remove the storage cap, unscrew the collar and pull the existing probe until it detaches.
3Fit the new probe. Insert the replacement and screw the collar in clockwise until firmly and securely attached.
4Calibrate before measuring. Run a full 2-point calibration — pH 7.0 first, then pH 4.0 (or 10.0) — using fresh calibration solution. A new probe is never accurate until it's been hydrated and calibrated.

FAQ

Does the pH ProbePlus fit the standard Bluelab pH Pen or Combo Meter?

No. The pH ProbePlus fits the Bluelab pH PenPlus only. The standard pH Pen has a fixed probe, and Combo Meters, pH Meters and Guardian Monitors use the separate BNC-connector Bluelab pH Probe.

Does calibration solution come included?

No. The pH ProbePlus is the replacement probe only — calibration sachets ship with the pH PenPlus pen, not the probe. Add pH 7.0 and 4.0 calibration solution plus KCl storage solution to your order so you can hydrate and calibrate the new probe before use.

Do I need to soak the new probe before using it?

Yes. Hydrate the probe tip in KCl storage solution for at least 24 hours, then run a full 2-point calibration before taking measurements. Skipping hydration leaves the glass bulb dehydrated — readings drift and the probe can be permanently damaged.

Do I need tools to replace the probe?

No. The screw-cap design swaps by hand — unscrew the collar, remove the old probe, seat the new one and screw the collar back down.

When should I replace the probe on my pH PenPlus?

Replace it when the probe is damaged or can no longer be calibrated. pH probes age through normal use — if cleaning, hydration and recalibration no longer restore stable readings, the glassware has reached the end of its service life.

What warranty does the pH ProbePlus carry?

The pH ProbePlus carries a 6-month limited warranty. Probes are consumable components that wear with regular use, which is why the warranty is shorter than the 2-year cover on the pen itself.
