Broad Blue Media Protect Granular is the root-zone half of the Broad Blue pest control system. While the foliar sprays handle what lands on leaves (broad mites, spider mites, thrips), Media Protect handles what lives in your substrate — fungus gnats, stem borers, nematodes — plus soil-active aphid and mealy bug pressure. Sprinkle granules onto the top of your growing media, water them in, and the active travels through the roots to protect the plant systemically for 8 to 12 weeks. 100g covers roughly 10 plants in 20L pots. Designed for indoor and greenhouse cultivation. Ornamental use only, 8-week withholding period — not for food crops.

Root-Zone Systemic Active moves up through the roots into the whole plant. Protects from the inside out, not just what you sprayed.
8 to 12 Week Protection One application per cycle. Apply in early veg or at bloom start, then let the plant do the work.
Hits What Sprays Can't Fungus gnats, nematodes, stem borers — pests that live in media or burrow inside stems, out of reach of contact sprays.
No Spray Gear Needed Sprinkle and water in. No sprayer, no mixing, no calibrating dose per litre. Dosage table by pot size does the rest.
Pairs with Foliar Run it alongside Broad Blue Protect sprays for full root-to-canopy coverage. Two modes, two zones, one program.
Ornamental Only Not registered for food crops. 8-week withholding period. Use on ornamental plants only.

Grower Tips
  • Ornamental plants only. Not for food crops, herbs, vegetables, or anything you plan to consume. The 8-week withholding is non-negotiable.
  • Apply early. Day one in the main pot, or on day one of the flip. Getting ahead of pests is cheaper than chasing them.
  • Don't skip the watering-in step. That's what activates root uptake — dry granules sitting on top of coco do nothing.
  • Match the dose to your pot size. Under-dosing a 50L pot with a 20L pot amount means gaps in protection. Use the table below.
  • Pair with foliar protection (Broad Blue Protect 750ml RTU or Concentrate) for root-to-canopy coverage. Foliar handles what lands on leaves; granules handle what lives in media.
  • Store sealed and dry. Moisture ruins granular products fast.
  • Wear gloves when applying. Wash hands after.
  • Don't apply near fish tanks, ponds, or aquariums. It's a synthetic systemic, not an organic product.

Dosage by Pot Size

10L pot: 6g per plant
20L pot: 10g per plant
30L pot: 13g per plant
50L pot: 18g per plant

How to Apply

1
Confirm your plants are ornamental. If you're growing anything you plan to eat, stop here — Broad Blue Media Protect has an 8-week withholding period and isn't cleared for food crops.
2
Put on gloves. Work out how much you need using the dosage table above — by plant, by pot size. A kitchen scale is your friend here.
3
Sprinkle granules evenly across the top of your growing media, around the base of each plant. Don't dump in one spot — spread them out for even root uptake.
4
Water in thoroughly. Give it a proper drink — plenty of water to carry the active down through the profile and into the root zone. This step activates the product.
5
Apply once at the start of the grow when plants are transplanted into their main pot, or alternatively at the beginning of bloom. Not both — one application covers 8 to 12 weeks.
6
Monitor your canopy and root zone for the next 8 to 12 weeks. Protection is systemic, so new roots and new foliage are covered as they grow.

FAQ

What pests does Media Protect target?

Fungus gnats, aphids, stem borers, nematodes, and mealy bugs. It's specifically effective against soil-dwelling and stem-boring pests that contact foliar sprays can't reach. For leaf-feeding pests like spider mites, broad mites, and thrips, pair with Broad Blue Protect foliar sprays.

Can I use it on food crops, herbs, or vegetables?

No. Broad Blue Media Protect is registered for ornamental plants only and carries an 8-week withholding period. It's not cleared for food crops, herbs, fruit, or any plant you plan to consume. For edibles, stick to organic options like Zero Tolerance with zero withholding.

How many plants will 100g or 200g cover?

100g covers roughly 10 plants in 20L pots, or 200g covers around 20 plants in the same size. Scale up for bigger pots (50L pots need 18g each) and down for smaller ones (10L pots need 6g each). Check the dosage table above for exact rates.

Can I combine Media Protect with Broad Blue foliar sprays?

Yes — they're designed to work together. Media Protect goes on the media and protects against soil-zone and stem-boring pests systemically from the roots. The foliar sprays (Protect RTU or Concentrate) protect against leaf-feeding pests on the surface. Full program: Media Protect at transplant, foliar spray in week 2 of veg. Covers all common pests through to harvest.

When's the best time to apply?

Two options: apply at the start of the grow when plants go into their main pots, or at the beginning of bloom. Once per cycle — don't double-dose. If you applied at transplant, that one application covers you through 8 to 12 weeks without re-application.

What if I still see pests after applying?

Give it 7 to 10 days — systemic uptake takes time, especially in cooler conditions or larger plants. If pests persist after two weeks, check the application dose matched your pot size, and pair with a foliar spray for any pests feeding above-ground. Don't re-apply granules early — over-dosing doesn't improve protection, it just stresses the plant.

Can I use it in hydroponic or Autopot systems?

Media Protect is designed for media-based systems — coco, soil, potting mix — where granules can sit on top of the substrate and be watered in. It's not formulated for water-only hydroponic systems (DWC, NFT, aeroponics), which have no media for granules to dissolve into. For hydro, use the foliar Broad Blue Protect instead.

How long does it keep once opened?

Around 12 to 18 months sealed in the original container, stored somewhere cool, dark, and dry. Moisture is the enemy of granular products — if the granules clump or change colour, bin them. Always reseal the lid tightly after each use.

Does it ship to Tasmania and regional Australia?

Yes — ships Australia-wide. Free shipping over $499*. Granules ship as standard freight (no dangerous goods classification), so delivery to WA, NT, and TAS is on the regular national timeline. Questions on your postcode? Message us.
