Pairs well with
Every grow tent is a box of heat and electricity running unattended for twelve hours or more a day: drivers, ballasts, heaters, pumps and a powerboard feeding the lot. The Flame Defender is an automatic, self-contained fire extinguisher that hangs above that gear and discharges ABC dry chemical powder the moment its sprinkler head reaches 68°C (155°F), whether you are in the room or asleep two streets away. No wiring, no plumbing, no app. It comes in 2kg, 6kg and 12kg, and the manufacturer rates the 2kg at a 1.24m (4 ft) spray circle. Be clear on what it is: a backup, not a fire system. It does not replace a smoke alarm, it leaves a sticky yellow residue on everything it hits, and as a pressurised extinguisher it travels by dangerous goods road freight, never Australia Post.

Grower's Tip
- Mount it over the gear most likely to fail, not automatically in the middle of the tent. Drivers, ballasts, heaters and the powerboard are where grow-room fires start.
- Heat rises, so higher is better: ceiling or top of the tent, sprinkler head pointing down at the risk.
- Keep the head clear of anything that runs hot in normal operation, such as an HID reflector or a heater outlet. It reacts to temperature, not smoke, so a hot surface can set it off with no fire at all.
- The 6kg and 12kg are heavy. Fix them to a ceiling joist or a frame bar rated for the load, never to a tent corner pole or a light hanger.
- Look it over between grows: knocks to the sprinkler head, dents, corrosion or anything resting on it. Replace a damaged unit rather than hoping.
- Treat it as one layer. A smoke alarm outside the tent, safety switches on the circuit and a handheld extinguisher by the door cover the gaps it does not.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Flame Defender need power, wiring or plumbing?
No. It is fully self-contained. Fix it in place and it is working, with nothing to connect.
What temperature does it go off at?
It discharges automatically when its sprinkler head reaches 68°C (155°F). It reacts to heat at the head, not to smoke.
Is it safe to use on electrical fires?
Yes. ABC dry chemical is non-conductive and the unit is rated for Class C fires under the US system, which covers electrical equipment. In Australian terms that is a Class E fire.
Which size do I need?
Flame Defender only publishes coverage for the 2kg: a 1.24m (4 ft) circle under the head, which suits a small tent or a single equipment shelf. The 6kg carries three times the powder and the 12kg six times, so step up for larger tents and rooms, and use more than one unit when the risk points are spread out.
Will it damage my plants and equipment if it goes off?
Yes, it can. The powder leaves a sticky yellow residue that can damage electronics and coats plants under the spray. It is designed to stop a fire, and the clean-up is the price of that.
Can it go off without a fire?
Yes, if the head itself gets to 68°C. That is why it should never sit against a reflector, heater outlet or any surface that runs hot in normal use.
Does it replace a smoke alarm or a normal fire extinguisher?
No. It is an automatic backup for the hours nobody is watching. Keep a working smoke alarm and a handheld extinguisher as well, and it does not count toward any extinguisher your building or insurer requires.
Why is it not included in free shipping?
Fire extinguishers are pressurised dangerous goods that Australia Post will not carry, so the Flame Defender travels by road courier at its own freight rate, shown at checkout. Free pickup from our Invermay store is the cheapest way to get one.
Is it reusable after it discharges?
No. It is a single-use unit. Once it has fired, replace it before you run the room again.
