The P160 is the pen that does everything, which also means every reading it gives you comes off one electrode. pH, EC, TDS, PPM and temperature all live in this part, so when the glass bulb tires or the conductivity rings scale up, the whole pen goes vague at once. This is the genuine Aqua Master Tools replacement electrode (part AMT1019) for the P160 Pro and P160 Pro2 combo pens. It is the same 5-in-1 sensor the pen shipped with, it is IP67 waterproof once fitted, it swaps over by hand in a couple of minutes, and it costs well under half of a new pen. It is a dry-storage electrode like the original, so no KCl cap is needed day to day.

Soak it before you use it. Aqua Master ships this electrode dry, and dried salt around the glass is normal. Stand the new electrode in tap water for at least 12 hours before fitting it, then calibrate both pH and EC. Skip the soak and the first readings will wander.
Fits the P160 Pro and P160 Pro2Aqua Master makes one P160 electrode (AMT1019) and it fits both generations of the combo pen. It does not fit the P110, which uses its own part.
All five readings from one partpH glass, EC rings and the temperature sensor sit in one cartridge. One swap brings back every number the P160 reads, not just pH.
Well under half the price of a new penThe electrode is the only wearing part. The body, display, case and calibration solutions you already own carry on as they were.
No tools, no solderingUnscrew the sealing ring at the base of the pen, pull the old electrode, seat the new one with the recess lined up, tighten the ring. Done.
Dry storage, IP67 once fittedNo storage solution needed between uses, and with the seal seated and the ring tight the pen gets its full waterproof rating back.
Genuine part, six-month warrantyAqua Master Tools warrants the electrode for six months. Fitting a part from another brand voids the pen's warranty, so this is the only one worth using.

Grower's Tip

  • Before you buy, clean and recalibrate. A bulb coated in nutrient film or EC rings furred with scale behave exactly like a worn electrode. Ten minutes in electrode cleaner, a rinse, then fresh pH 7, pH 4 and EC standard. If both modes calibrate and hold, you did not need a new electrode.
  • Signs it really is worn: pH will not calibrate or drifts in a stable buffer, EC will not return to zero in clean water, the response time has blown out to a minute or more, or the glass is cracked or chipped.
  • Aqua Master's own fix for an EC reading that will not drop back to zero is a short swirl in ethyl alcohol (5 to 10 seconds). Try that before you condemn the electrode.
  • Calibrate both modes after fitting, even if you mostly use one. The EC side can be calibrated with any EC standard because the P160's EC calibration is not temperature dependent, so the 2.76 EC Flairform standard works as well as the 1413 solution in the pen's case.
  • Use fresh buffer and standard for the first calibration on a new electrode. Solutions that have been dipped a dozen times are contaminated and will calibrate the new sensor to a wrong number.
  • Rinse the electrode with water after every reading and put the cap back on. Dried nutrient salts on the glass and the EC rings are the main reason combo electrodes wear out early.
  • Do not plunge a cold electrode into hot liquid or the other way round. Sudden temperature swings can crack the glass bulb, and that is not covered by warranty.
  • Check the rubber seal is seated before you tighten the sealing ring. A mis-seated seal is how water gets into the pen, and water damage is not a warranty claim either.

How To Fit It

1Soak the new electrode in tap water for at least 12 hours. This dissolves the dried salts and activates the glass. Do this before you touch the pen.
2Turn the pen off, take the cap off and unscrew the sealing ring at the lower end of the meter.
3Pull the old electrode straight out. Gently. It is a push fit onto connector pins, not a thread.
4Line up the recess on the new electrode with the pen body and push it home so the connectors mate properly. Forcing it in the wrong way round damages the pins.
5Check the rubber seal is sitting flat, then screw the sealing ring back on tight. This is what gives you the IP67 rating back.
6Calibrate pH first (2-point auto, pH 7.00 then pH 4.01), then switch to EC mode and calibrate against your EC standard, as described in the manual. The pen is ready once both calibrations are confirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this electrode fit the P160 Pro2 as well as the original P160 Pro?

Yes. Aqua Master Tools makes a single P160 electrode, part AMT1019, and lists it as the replacement for both the P160 Pro and the P160 Pro2. The Pro2 changed the display, batteries and firmware, not the electrode.

Will it fit the P110 combo pen? They look the same.

No. The P110 uses its own electrode (AMT1014) and Aqua Master states the two are not interchangeable. The P160 also calculates TDS and PPM, which the P110 does not, so the electronics expect the right part. Check the model name printed on the front of your pen.

Does one electrode really replace pH, EC, TDS, PPM and temperature?

Yes. The pH glass, the conductivity electrodes and the temperature sensor are built into this one cartridge. TDS and PPM are calculated from the EC reading, so once pH and EC are calibrated, all five numbers are back.

How do I know the electrode is worn and not just dirty?

Clean it first. Soak the tip in electrode cleaner, rinse, then calibrate pH in fresh pH 7 and pH 4 buffers and EC in fresh standard. If pH still will not calibrate or drifts in a stable buffer, or EC will not come back to zero in clean water even after a swirl in ethyl alcohol, the electrode has had its day.

Do I need any tools to replace it?

No. The sealing ring at the base of the pen unscrews by hand, the old electrode pulls straight out and the new one pushes in. Aqua Master's own instructions are seven steps and most of them are "check the seal" and "calibrate".

Do I have to recalibrate both pH and EC after fitting it?

Yes, both. The calibration stored in the pen belongs to the old electrode. Soak the new one for 12 hours, fit it, run the 2-point pH calibration, then switch to EC mode and calibrate against your EC standard before you trust a reading.

Does it need storage solution in the cap like a normal pH probe?

No. The P160 electrode is a dry-storage type, the same as the one the pen shipped with. Rinse it after use, cap it and put it away. The one exception is the 12-hour tap water soak before first use.

Why does the new electrode have white crust on it?

That is dried salt from the electrode's internal solution and Aqua Master says it is normal. The 12-hour soak in tap water dissolves it and rehydrates the glass. It is not a fault and it is not a sign the part is old.

Is the pen still waterproof with a replacement electrode?

Yes, provided the rubber seal is seated and the sealing ring is done up tight. Aqua Master rates the electrode IP67 when attached to the meter, the same as the pen out of the box.

Welcome to The Grow Guys

We built The Grow Guys from the soil up — well, coco and perlite. Before we sold gear, we bought it, ran it, and learned the hard way what's worth the money and what ends up in the shed. That's the filter everything on our shelves passes through. No sales scripts, no rebadged junk, no telling you what you want to hear. Just gear we'd run ourselves and advice from people who actually grow. Chasing higher yields, tighter flowers, or your first harvest? You're in the right place.
